Music Building

Lauren Lafferty is a Houston native with a passion for choral music and the transformational communities it can form. Before pursuing graduate study, she spent six years teaching at Legacy High School in Mansfield, Texas, a chapter she holds close to her heart. She holds a Master's degree in Choral Conducting from Baylor University. Her culminating document explored psychological safety in the choral ensemble, arguing that the most artistically demanding thing a conductor can ask of a singer is not perfection, but wholeness. She has also served the field as Region V Vocal Secretary and 9/10 Coordinator, and sings soprano with various groups across the state of Texas. This year at UNT, she is the director of Camerata and teaches Fundamentals of Conducting.
